What this site is
SlideRule.Engineer is an interactive slide rule. It has no accounts, forms or advertising, and what you do on the rule stays in your browser.
Analytics, only if you accept
On your first visit, a box below the title asks whether this site may use Google Analytics. Nothing from Google loads unless you choose Accept.
If you accept, Google Analytics 4 records each page's address and title, how far down you scroll, how long you spend on it, and clicks on links that lead to other sites. It also records your browser, operating system, screen size and language, the country or region you connect from, and the site that sent you, if any. Two first-party cookies carry a random identifier that lets Google tell one browser and session from another.
The figures show how many people use the slide rule and how they find it. There is no advertising on this site, no data is sold, and no name or email address is collected. Google LLC processes the data under its own privacy policy.
Your choices
Accept and Decline are each remembered for 12 months, after which the box asks again. To change your mind sooner, clear this site's cookies in your browser and reload the page. Browsers that send a Global Privacy Control signal (Brave, DuckDuckGo, and Firefox with the setting turned on, among others) are treated as Decline: no box and no analytics. If you opted out with the switch this site's footer used to have, that choice carries over without the box asking again. Declining also removes any Google Analytics cookies an earlier visit left.
Server logs
Amazon CloudFront and Amazon S3 deliver these pages, and neither is set to write access logs for them, so no record of who visits is kept.
Stored on your device
Your Accept or Decline choice is a cookie. If you dismiss the notice that the site is meant for an iPad or larger screen, your browser remembers that until the tab is closed. Neither one identifies you.
